I don't remember this song at all. Will it be good? You tell me. Or maybe I should just listen to it.


The name "Clap" sounds garbage. But what's in a name? You tell me. "That joke again?" - you.


Okay. This song has Rae and Ghost on it, a classic combination. Plus it's got Method Man! The original Wu-Massacre! Which wasn't that good! Uh-oh. U-God is just on the chorus. UH-OH! At least it's a hidden track, so it has that going for it (those are usually much better than average). Let's see if this is better than average!

Was that the song? What was that? I don't remember that. Did I always skip it? WAIT. THAT WAS "JAH WORLD". "CLAP" starts at 3:52 into the video. I got duped. Fucking hidden track got hidden on a video. I'm glad our world has moved passed hidden tracks. Jah World was pretty good though. Ghost and RZA droppin' science. Not bad.

OKAY NOW FOR THE REAL REVIEW.

I actually found a video with Jah World on purpose to show what bothered me about the song. Nobody can transition from deep introspective social raps about being opressed to shit like this. First of all this beat is so generic. It sounds like it came from some sort of Wu-Tang beatmaker app. It's as uninspired as they come. But the most uninspired thing is the chorus (which is also U-God's only contribution). At first I thought this was going to be another song where U only gets to say one word for the whole shit (they've done that shit to him before), but this time he gets to say one word ("clap") like fifty times plus he gets a line boosting up Ghost. So standard treatment of our man U-God.

The song starts with Raekwon dropping an ill verse, Ghost follows up with his usual high quality spit. And one thing you'll notice is that Mathematics clearly has no idea what makes the Rae + Ghost combo so fantastic. It's their chemistry, dude. Their back and forth...which they don't do here. Then when Meth comes in he's basically on his own, he doesn't add to the team at all, he's just doing a solo verse (a pretty good one) on the same song that the other two are on. No trade off, no building at all. This is the same reason that Wu-Massacre failed: uninspired production, no innovation, no interacton between dope MCs. Weak.

Speaking of "no interaction", U-God's contribution is completely contained in a trade off with Ghost. Here it is:

Ghost says something, U-God says "Clap" like ten times, then:

Ghost: Aiyo you see me on the big screen y'all n----s Clap
U-God: Jeans with a gangster lean, y'all Clap
Ghost: Good hats, sloppy automatics that Clap
U-God: Big shit, thunder

Ghost: Get around that

IN CONCLUSION: Weak use of U-God in a pretty granola song.
