"Wait a minute," you say, "Winter Warz is on 'Ironman' not this dumb shit." You're right kind of and watch your mouth. The track appeared here first, "Ironman" came out like 10 months later daaawwwggg.
Just a quick background, I bought this whole stupid soundtrack just to hear this song (seriously), that was the way we did it back in the dayz. I hadn't even seen the movie. Different times. Anyway, keen eyes might also notice a Blue Raspberry track on here, so the Wu was somewhat well represented.
"Winter Warz"
This is probably one of the weirdest Wu-Tang tracks of all time. Why? Cappadonna kills it. Wu heads will know what I'm talking about. I think we can all agree that Cappadonna is some kind of slouch that lucked his way into the Wu-Tang Clan. But people can also agree that his verse on Winter Warz is amazing. I agree with it. Some people might even consider it a classic, one of the best in hop hop history! I agree with that as well. So let us come together as friends and examine his work without any anger or hostility.
"Whoa there, we're supposed to be looking at U-God's contribution" - U-God fans.
Oh yeah. Well, is he on here? I guess so. Wow. He kicks it off. Who knew? I guess we were always just waiting for Cappa to come in. Well, let's check it out...
This rhyme you digest through the RZA console
Ask why I slam nine diagram pole
Raekwon dropped the bomb, Hunchback, Norte Dame
Golden Arms is bronze, buddah palm hit Qu'ran
It blows extreme, mean stream be the theme
Supreme team, America's Cream Team, redeemed
Vidal Sassoon, chrome tones hear the moans of Al Capone
Gun POW to the dome
And split the bone, wig blown off the ledge
By the alledged, full-fledged, sledge RZA edge
One dose of my feroc handheld trigga cuts
Acapella spittin shell paralyzed when you get touched
And critical mic cords, hangin like umbilical
Cords, dope swords, five star general
Raw be the quote rap style sore throat
Through the fully operational, hand held tote mm-hmm
Not bad, right? I mean, it makes no sense, but it's still somehow pretty good. His shortening of ferocious to feroc is great. Speaking of great and feroc let's get back to Cappadonna's best verse ever. Not yet? COME ON. Okay, fine. RZA's beat is fantastic. Raekwon handles the chorus well. Ghostface drops a decent verse. Masta Killa drops a truly feroc verse and should have easily won this contest. In fact, he probably has the best verse...if it weren't for Cappa spitting for like three minutes straight and killing it the whole time.
Finally we come to: CAPPADONNA (airhorn)! Okay, so as Wu-fans we first heard Cappadonna only a few months before this song came out when he appeared on "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...". So he was definitely the new guy, and somehow he basically runs over four of the original clansman. He kills everyone. Now, let me be clear: I don't even really like Cappadonna. I barely respect him. But this verse on this beat is beyond good.
The funny thing is that I would like to publish a few of Cappa's best lines, but none of them make sense. It's all jumbled nonsense. But it's good! Now, Masta Killa definitely has more coherent rhymes and is fully showing his abilities here. However, Cappadonna has that spark of hunger that you can just feel. Stylistically, Cappa is similar Ghostface and Raekwon in that he delivers "stream-of-consciousness" lyrics, but most people agree that his skills just aren't on the level of his Wu brothern. Sometimes I find myself frustrated with Cappas flow and baffled by his lyrics, but "Winter Warz" is definitely his song. This is a rare instance where the beat and the MC fit together perfectly...so it's hard for me to type but: Cappa should earn some sort of awesomeness grammy for his work here - he dropped a classic verse plain and simple. His flow is spot on, his rhymes pull you in and eventually you can't help but to root for him to keep going, and RZA produced it perfectly, the beat drives the song, but it is mellow enough to allow Cappa to shine. A perfect combination.
Disagree? Well I don't care. Call Cappadonna personally at: 9-1-7 1-6-0-4-9-3-11
Track Score: 10/10
U-God’s Score: 6/10
Cappadonna's Score: 10/10
Impact on Rep (+,-,=): None
Next Week: U-God hits another soundtrack, this time for your favorite movie: "The Great White Hype"

About this series: “U-God’s Resume" is a series of posts which looks at each line of U-God’s entire career to determine if his status as ‘wack’ is justified (as labeled by internet morons). I think it is not. U-God is dope. We'll prove it. Leave it to the Tort Team.
