Track Checker: EPMD "Da Joint"

Yesterday I was showing my grandpa the wonders of the internet and we made our way over to Internet Radio. To my surprise, the first song that came up was this one! "Da Joint" by EPMD! So, of course, we got retarded* and when the song ended we cleaned up the mess and had some brunch. Sunday shit!
*in a traditional hip hop sense, not in an offensive sense, just like the Black Eyed Peas (who have nothing to do with hip hop)

Anyway, listening to this song reminded me that EPMD had a good song that nobody talks about. And it doesn't fit in the very old school category like all their other good songs ("You Gots 2 Chill", "So Whatcha' Sayin", "Get The Bozack", plus about ten others that I can't remember off the top of my head.). So I thought I'd take a second and remind you about this good song. Here it is:

I know that this song has an official video, but it's edited and has a bunch of dumb shit added to it that nobody wants to hear, so I put up the good version. Plus when I spun this shit in the days of old, I never listened to the clean version. Strictly dirty, that's how I do it, and that's how I did it. Word.

There is a lot to say about this song. First, the beat is good! It sounds like a typical Erick Sermon beat, but its one of his better beats. Professional. Second, the lyrics sound like they're coming from masters. The team stayed strong for their comeback and killed it. Third, the chorus is good (even though I bet it looks dumb on paper). Finally, the chemistry is there between the boys. Did they hate each other at this point? Did they reunite just for the paper? Who knows?

I do have some minor issues: Erick Sermon kicks off the song by saying that he "makes a million bucks every six months". OK! I don't care. You're a good producer and Def Squad and whatever. Earn what you can. Then he says that people are hating. I doubt it. I think at this point (and still) not many people hate anyone from EPMD. They're well respected. They stay on point (except for "We Mean Business").

In Conclusion: EPMD is the shit. This song is good. I attached the official video at the end of the post, in case you want to see it. Which you do.
