Trackmasters: Rasheed & Ill Advised "1.9.8.6."
Get your scuba gear, it's time to dig deeep in the crates. Today we were going to make it really complicated and review an obscure remix of an underground song! We ran into a big problem though: the song was impossible to track down online, and I no longer have the CD. The OTHER big problem was that I didn't remember what CD it was on. I only remembered that the song was called "1.9.8.6.", it was some Philly shit, Black Thought was on it, and it was on a remix tape. There were a lot of questions, but nothing that we couldn't handle. Let's crack the case like Matlock, son.
Thanks to a quick internet search, I discovered that the song that I wanted to hear is called "1.9.8.6. West/South/North Philly Mix". I don't know how I would have forgotten that, it's such a normal title. Then I put it together that I had heard this song on the 1999 Sway and King Tech mixtape "This or That" (of course). Sway and Tech are (were?) radio DJ's in San Francisco and released several of these mixtapes, I bought this one becasue RZA has a verse on the song The Anthem (which is on some recycled shit). To my surprise, the best track of the album was this 1.9.8.6. remix, which nobody will ever hear because it no longer exists. P.S. Yes, this is the SWAY from Mtv (you know, those toady poser goons).
Well, we're going to review SOMETHING. So, forget the Flynamic Force! Let's see if we can track down any version of this song.
How about we just check out the original from Rasheed & Ill Advised? Cool idea. Okay, Rasheed is a Philly MC better known today as Maylay Sparks, I don't know who Ill Advised is, but he raps too. Philly shit! Let's quit talking and and spin the shit:
Wasn't that worth the wait? That beat is insane and lyrics are dope. Does it get any better? But the best thing is that you'e never heard this shit before. It's new! But it's still old. Golden era.
1.9.8.6. SCORE 9/10

Track Checker: Carly Rae, Jimmy Fallon, The Roots "Call Me Maybe" Children's Instrument Remix
The Roots Crew!
I am COMPLETELY biased becasue of the Philly connection, and becasue Black Thought is one of my favorite MCs (he should be one of yours too), and also my spinning of the Roots since 1995 (holy shit). So I'm very inclined to like their work, and while this isn't hip hop, it's MAD TALENT and so fun. TRY NOT TO LIKE THIS CHUMPS.

Track Check: CookieMonsta "IDAHO"
![]() |
The reality of this post is worse... |
LET'S GET IT....
First of all, what in the hot hell kind of name is CookieMonsta? Oh, I can answer that: it's a stupid name. Really stupid. The stupidest? Are you sure you're not from Washington State CookieMonsta? I'm starting to suspect.... Actually, were are you from? Idaho Falls? Let's check the map:

Hahahaha! |
Things are looking way down...let's just do the stupid song:
let's get it.
ZzzzzZZZZZzzzzz. That's about the most generic cut and paste rap song I've ever heard. Plus you sound mad timid on your hook, you know, the hook where you say "Idaho" like you're falling asleep. That's your HOME, you don't weakly say that shit with your mouth, that shit is in your heart. I would be pumping that shit up. If I were to say "IDAHO" and I was from there, it would hurt other people and make them scared. Twerk that. Let's check the weaky weakers chorus:
"I'm from...Idaho / I'm from...Idaho
I'm from...Idaho / I'm from...Idaho"
I'm from...Idaho / I'm from...Idaho"
That's neat. Let's try that chorus with a different state and see if it works:
"I'm from...Georgia/ I'm from...Georgia
I'm from...Georgia/ I'm from Georgia"
Next? Sigh. Some boasting about being "country", something about "stayin' blown", "Bud Light", "Jungle Juice". Bragging about getting ladies, something, something. HAHAHA. He brags about representing the "208" which is the same area code that Benji has on the other side of the state! Now that's non-specific representing! Yo! Philly has like eight area codes in the metro area. HAHAHAH!
I think I'm half way through the song. Let's see, they get up early in the morning HAHAH. That's a sucka move. Then this:
"I-D-A-HO depending on how my day go
I stay in and lay low or hit the road with that tre-four"
Hahah! No you don't. Wow. The description of the East Idaho ladies is just amazing and gross. Ladies! Gross Ladies! Whew, that's it. The song SUCKS and so does the STATE. Get me outta here.
IDAHO Score 0/10 (song and state)

Stay Cool? |
That's how it's done Idaho, even if you're not from Philly you can see that Jakk Frost is proud of his city and he shows you why it's a good place. Lot's of love and respect in this song. So, Idaho, get back to workin' the land and stay off the mic.
