U-God's Resume #13: "A Better Tomorrow"

--Official Stats--
Artist: Wu-Tang Clan
Song: "A Better Tomorrow"
Album: Wu-Tang Forever
Release Date: June 3, 1997

You know what? I don't want to review this song. Why? I don't know, I like it. This, along with It's Yourz are the highlights of disk one of "Forever" for me. I don't know, maybe the trials of life are just piling up and I've lost my motivation. Maybe it's because the rent on this blog is a month past due thanks to the lousy double dip recession. They're seriously going to shut off the lights here. How are we supposed to write a blog in the dark? It'll just be worse (if that's possible). But enough about me, how are you doing? Word? So, yeah, times are tough for all of us. Let's stick together and see if we can get through this song that we both like. Let's grab three five-hour energy drinks and get boosted for fifteen hours, that'll make us feel better (it always does).

"A Better Tomorrow"

That's a good rolling beat. This production is mad nice with some rugged piano and the return of the violin that stretches through several bars (similar to Reunited). It's on some somber shit though, and it's a message rap...but it works. I guess when a group of the most talented MCs ever join together to spit their message game it tends to work out for everyone. Everyone does a good job rapping and sticks to the topic (which doesn't happen much). U-God comes through with this:

Yo. Curses from war, innocent blood spills for days
Soothe in godly ways, hands, solemn in praise
Tree of life, more precious than Wu is golden game
The wise self flourish inherit, Halls of Fame
Crime visions in my blood got me, locked in prison
While we die hard living people whine about religion, vision
Blow, spin, and sin and killing what's revealing
It's a never ending battle with no ending or beginning, listen
Zero process, progress, become the hunted
America's most wanted, good life flaunted, want it
Some love the speed, some satisfy a need
Some want to be down, young gun seed, jungle breed
The strong must feed, someone die, someone bleed
One flew astray, and then caught my little seed
Can it be, the ice have us trife life, made me grab the knife
The righteous man would be within these stripes pipes
Take in my energy, breathe and know the rest
Cause the good die young and the hard die best
HOT. But let's be honest, this is RZA's track, he kills it by breaking down the flag. That, with Method Man's strong finish really shape up a dope track. But how does U-God rank? Well, we have basically five ill verses where U-God does no better or worse than anyone else (I suppose that I would say he did better than Masta Killa, so that would place him fourth). But I can't knock anyone involved with this track. On a side note, I always wanted ODB to drop a verse on this track...it would have changed the whole shit son.

Track Score: 9/10
U-God’s Score: 8/10
Impact on Rep (+,-,=): Improves

P.S. As a writer it is hard to figure out how to write the names RZA and GZA. I mean should I say "the RZA" or just RZA? It's the 'the' that throws me, you know? It's a mystery of modern writing with no easy answer. In addition sometimes I want to write "the Method Man" instead of just Method Man...I know it's wrong and I would lose all my credibility if I wrote that. but it's something. What would the Masta Killa think?

Next Week: More "Wu-Tang Forever", the track that follows A Better Tomorrow: It's Yourz

Blow Spin and Sin
About this series: “U-God’s Resume" is a series of posts which looks at each line of U-God’s entire career to determine if his status as ‘wack’ is justified (as labeled by internet morons). I think it is not. U-God is dope. We'll prove it. Leave it to the Tort Team.
